I haz a sad

I don’t know what happened.  Yeraze.com was fine at 7:00 this morning, and I hit it again about 8:30 to upgrade to the new WordPress2.8 (After upgrading VizWorld successfully), and the site was GONE. Completly gone, all files erased.  The database was still there, so a quick install of WP2.8 got that back, but I’m [...]

Slacking off on updates…

I know, I know, the “sorry I haven’t updated in a while” post is so cliche.  But I felt I needed to put something here.
I’ve recently been consumed with VizWorld.com, my new pet project.  And it’s doing GREAT.  Some recent successes:

VizWorld.com is now indexed as part of Google News.
I was contacted by NAB with a [...]

New on Yeraze.com : Weekly Digests

As you’ve probably already seen, I’ve added a new plugin to WordPress here that will automatically pull my Google Reader Shared Items, YouTube Favorites, & Posterous posts into a single weekly digest post.  I wanted to link those to my blog here, but I didn’t want every single one of them posted as a new [...]

Twitter vs RSS : Which do you prefer?

Now that I’m running WordPress, I setup Dan Zarella’s awesome “TweetSuite” plugin and configured it. I turned on the Auto-Tweet of new posts, but after a day of using it I saw that I was pretty effectively spamming all my twitter friends with my blog posts. To me that seemed a bit annoying [...]

Yeraze 3.0 Coming on Line

I’ve just finished installing WordPress onto Yeraze.com, and managed to successfully import all of my old Geeklog Data.  I’m still working on it, so expect to see things in rapid flux right now.  I’m having issues with Disqus showing all stories as ‘Comments closed’ and alot of links are broken right now, but I’m on [...]

TweetBacks – Twitter-based Blog comments

Yesterday I heard about "TweetBacks" for the first time.  They’re very similar to Trackbacks or Comments, except they work with Twitter.  The idea is that whenever someone links to a blog post, that’s essentially a comment and it would be nice if they appeared next to the blog-post.  Well, the idea was mentioned less than a week ago on Mashable (10 ways Twitter will change Blog Design ), and already a talented guy named Dan Zarella has implemented it.  Currently on version .2 beta, it’s a simple JavaScript you can include on any webpage to show TweetBacks.  He’s already released a Wordpress plugin, and the 1-line Script tag was trivial for me to add to Geeklog’s templates.

So, you’ll notice that individual articles pages now have a Tweetbacks section! Currently, they just show me talking about my own blog most of the time, but hopefully it’ll grow over time.  Enjoy! [tag:tweetback][tag:blog][tag:twitter]

Facebook Connect support on Yeraze.com

I’m really liking how Disqus handles comments, and they just added support for "Facebook Connect" registration.  This means that in addition to posting anonymousy or with your Disqus account, you can post with your Facebook account.  To most people this will seem pointless, but it’s another handy option.

Mention on zdnet

it seems my article on using Quartz filters to shrink PDF’s is getting a bit popular.  I just noticed I’ve got a reference in a new ZDNet article on the subject.

I was shocked!  The article is by David Morgenstern and can be found here. [tag:zdnet][tag:pdf][tag:publicity]

Disqus support now on Yeraze.com

So I’ve just enabled support for Disqus comments here on yeraze.com.  With this, comments can more easily be tracked and you can more easily see followups on your comments.  Just view a story and you’ll see the Disqus block at the bottom.

In the meantime, I’m leaving Geeklog comments enabled.  If the disqus stuff catches on, tho, I might disable them and go entirely Disqus.

Update 10/15 9:30am: Ok, I took the plunge.  With a little help from Dirk, I was able to disable any new comments but preserve existing ones.  All future comments will be handled by Disqus.  They still allow anonymous comments as well as registered ones, threading, ranking, spam blocking, and more, so I think it’s a win-win.  There’s also an RSS feed of just comments if you visit http://yerazesdomain.disqus.com . If you have any concerns, complains, or questions, drop a comment :)

Website Bug: Captchas

I think I just fixed a glitch where captcha’s would fail sometimes, even when they were correct.  I’ve fixed the problem, so if you’ve tried to post a comment or create an account since I enabled captcha’s, then try again and it should work.

Sorry!
