I am very warey of any system that allows a insurance company (or the govt) the right to control my access to healthcare, or the access to EHR. But some sort of system or change HAS to come.

While it is a fairly easy question to answer if the elderlly should get a treatment…..push the question a step further. If we pay for it in the elderly……Do we pay for it for prisoners? How about illegal immagrants? Bums on the street??

Every statement in the commentary that is outrageous has nothing to do with the actual stimulus bill, it's a huge tangential jump to either Daschle's book, or the UK health system.

I question when anyone uses a few words as a quote (“will not be pain free”) and then leaps into something (most likely) completely unrelated. If Daschle was saying the elderly would have to wait longer for care, etc, the full quote would be more damning. I don't profess to know, but I'd bet that quote is severely out of context.

And the comment about the funding being more than all the military branches, the funding for the NCHIS is 2 billion, from which the subsidies and funding for electronic medical record promotion will be drawn. The military numbers she cites are 4.5 billion, and this is only the funding for facilities modernization of the military given in this act – nothing to do with the 600 billionish budget the DOD already has.

It's impossible to read the whole bill without having ones eyes glaze over, but even the pages she cites seem to discredit her arguments.

I'm certainly not the biggest chearleader for this stimulus bill, and I don't mean to jump on all your points, but there's lots of funny math in the Bloomberg op-ed, and very little to indicate the government intends to kick the elderly to the curb.

And this seems like a huge moneysink and largely devoid of anything to do with Stimulus.

As I understand it, the rating system is based on what is covered by the federal pool, not on the treatment that will be given. (I could be wrong… I'm remembering without looking it up.)

As to the hiding things in a budget bill… That's how sausage is made. It ain't pretty, but the sausage tastes good.
