Last week Laura & I drive to Tupelo to see Jeff Dunham perform at the Bancorpsouth Arena.  We’ve seen all of his specials on Comedy Central, and I’ve seen alot of his Youtube clips.  We’re both long-time fans of Walter, and had been looking forward to this for a month.  So how was it?

In 1 word: Fantastic. I was really afraid that, having seen so much of his other material, I would just be witnessing the same old jokes performed live.  That definately was a part of it, but Jeff really shines when he start ad-libbing, especially bouncing off of “Guitar Guy” (Brian Haner).  And much to my surprise,Brian Haner is pretty hilarious too.  He opened the act with a ~20 minute standalone playing the guitar & singing some hilarious songs.  I had never heard him speak in the TV Specials before, but he’s hilarious.

The strangest part of the night was at the end of the show.  His act consisted of Walter, Achmed, Peanut & Jose the Jalepeno.  He walked off stage, then came back for a short Encore with “Bubba”.  He said he was deluged with emails from fans wanting to see Bubba when he came to Mississippi (understandable).  It had been so long since he’d used Bubba in the act, however, that he had to use a crib-sheet to remember all the jokes.  But as the act progressed, the Audience remembered the jokes better than Dunham!  As Bubba put it, “It’s like being in some strange church” as we all recited the punchlines along with Bubba.

It was a great time, and if he makes another Tour through here we’ll definately have to attend.
