Twitter vs RSS : Which do you prefer?
Now that I’m running WordPress, I setup Dan Zarella’s awesome “TweetSuite” plugin and configured it. I turned on the Auto-Tweet of new posts, but after a day of using it I saw that I was pretty effectively spamming all my twitter friends with my blog posts. To me that seemed a bit annoying and intrusive, since twitter doesn’t give you the ability to filter out any type of Tweets short of un-following me alltogether. So I turned it off, only to have a friend ask me to turn it back on.
So which is it? Is auto-tweet annoying or useful? It is better or worse than RSS? Is there really an answer?
Well, the questions been around for a while:
- John Cow – Twitter vs RSS
- David Davies – RSS Microblogging vs Twitter et al
- Geekpreneur – Twitter Vs. RSS Feed Readers
- And a simple google search for “rss vs twitter” finds hundreds more..
So what’s the bottom line? Well, the bottom line is it’s a personal preference thing. I see RSS as a “go and check when I want” while Twitter is “thrown at me all the time”. Others see them as exactly the opposite. So what’s your thought? Chime in!
