The Neighborhood that Time Forgot

Forgot to finish anyway.. and that Time is none other than Time Warner Cable, which has just recently been bought by ComCast. So now when you call for support, you get the fun runaround of “Hello, my name is with Comcast, formerly Time Warner.” For the last three months I’ve had nothing but trouble… And today is the most fubar’ed of it all. Let me start at the beginning.

After living in the house for almost a year, we started having trouble with our digital cable. The original installer told us straight up “I didn’t install a house-amp, because I think you don’t need one. If it turns out you do, just call us up and we’ll come install one, free of charge”. So we took him at his word and called them up. They quickly analyzed the situation and concluded “We need a house amp”. In addition, we had 2 passive splitters in the attic, and cable run on the outside of the house for one or two rooms, and he pulled all that out and ran new cables direct to the outside box where he added a bit 5-way amplified splitter. The work was fantastic, and they didn’t charge us a dime. That was the beginning of the trouble, and the hilarious situation I find myself in now.

VizWorld.com

Been a week since my last update, I know. I’ve been swamped in web design for the last week and the last thing I’ve felt like doin when I got home was more webwork. Nonetheless, I’m nearing the end of the tunnel and thought I’ld share the fruits of my labor.. At least, share the fruits that aren’t behind the iron curtain of “Government Review”.

A while back I registered the domain VizWorld.com. The plan was that myself and a few friends would setup a site to track and catalog scientific visualization information across our fields. There really doesn’t seem to be a central location on the internet that keeps track of all the hardware vendors and their newest stuff, all of the software vendors and their latest patches and newest versions, and all of the scientific stuff in the field. By combining our personal areas of expertise we could create a great community with forums, a blog, and a Wiki, all providing a new and engaging place to store and exchange information.

Well, I finally finished implementing the layout and the Blog and forums are live at www.vizworld.com . Check it out and feel free to join in. It’s still very early in it’s life, so tread lightly and let me know if anything breaks.
