Geek Chic: The Nintendo Powerglove
When I was a kid, one thing I desperately wanted for my Nintendo was a Powerglove. Made popular by The Wizard, it’s a strange hybrid of a controller & a light-gun that really offers little benefit to the gamer, but man did it look sweet. I had a friend with one and used it a few times, it was pretty klunkly and not too useful, but that didn’t stop me from wanting one. Sadly tho, I never got one and it never really reached the use that would warrant a newer version for later consoles.
Well, the powerglove has enjoyed a somewhat “geek underground” following and has been hacked into alot of things (Flickr “Powerglove” tag). You can pick em up on ebay relatively cheap, but it’s getting harder. But today I found a link to Retrozone where you can pick one up for $70. In fact, they’ve even modified it to operate on USB so you can hook it up to your computer. They claim it’ll work as a regular joystick so you can use it with all the emulators, or you can even use it as a MIDI controller!
Now that’s one kickass mod.. I wonder how long before SparkyDog picks one up and straps it on the end of the WAM. (I love how NASA misspelled ZKat as “ZKAR”).
