Well, DOECGF06 is over.  Paul & I skipped out the last day and came on back, since it’s a 12-hour trip back (Catch a plane out of Monterey at 6:30am, land in Jackson at 4:50pm).  The return trip was nice and boring, and they even let me carry-on my suitcase at every layover.  Nothing lost, nothing late..  Even so, I’m beat and tired.  I’m takin today off, and should return to work tomorrow.

The conference itself was pretty good.  We missed half of the first day because of the late flights, but the rest was interesting.  Got to see what’s new in Vapor and Visit, gonna have to check those out in more depth sometime.  Mike Houston was there too discussing various things in graphics hardware. but mainly to pitch Sequoia (can’t find a link).  Mike is well known for his development of tools like GPUBench, Chromium,  and BrookGPU.  At dinner that night I got to sit down with him and listen to him discuss why there is no GPUBench on Linux (yet), and the various games they have to endure with driver developers to get genuine results.

My talk went pretty well.  I did get a few questions afterwards and everyone seemed somewhat interested.  I even got a lead or two on some new users, but I’ve got a bit of work to do on it first.  So, aside from the disastrous flight in, it was a great trip.  Looking forward to going back next year.[tag:doe][tag:conference][tag:graphics]
