Visualization Contest wrap-up
Well, the IEEE Visualization 2005 Contest Website has been updated to reflect the results. What do they show?
- First Place: Jens Schneider, Polina Kondratieva, Jens Krueger, and Ruediger Westermann, Computer Graphics and Visualization Group, Technische Universitat Munchen
- Second Place: Hauke Bartsch, Mercury Computer Systems, and Werner Benger, Zuse Institute Berline
- Honorable Mention: Randall E. Hand, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Engineering Research and Development Center
A little digging around reveals some interesting tidbits. It seems the two Second Place people are collaborating on a paper about Visualizing Neuronal Structures in the Human Brain via Diffusion Tensor MRI to be published in the Int. Journal of Neuroscience, (2006), which explains their familiarity with the DTI dataset. It also seems that the tool they used to do the vis (Amira) was developed by their employer, Mercury Computer systems. As for the first place winner, it seems their entire entry was a demonstration of their “Virtual Windtunnel” Research Project and something called DFG SPP 1147, and was funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft(The German Research Council, thanks to BabelFish for the translation).
*sigh* Oh well… I’ve learned my lesson. Next year I’ll get the guys here at the lab involved, and kick everyone’s butt.
Still no word on prizes or rewards…
