Movie Night
Laura & I took the opportunity to go to town last night and watch Blade Trinity.
Before I talk about the movie, I want to talk about the State of Movie Theatres, specifically the theatre at the Bonita Lakes Mall. The movie was to start at 7:40pm.
* 7:45pm – Theatre Darkens, show starts (5 minutes late)
* 7:50pm – The commercials finally end. Commercials for Circuit City (which isn’t even in Meridian), Coca Cola, Call of Duty: Finest Hour, and others that I can’t remember. Oh, and the obligatory commercial for Fandango, the theatre’s online ticket-selling affiliate.
* 8:05pm – Movie finally starts
So 5 minutes of commercials, then 15 minutes of previews. 20 minutes of crap before the movie that I paid $7.25 * 2 for even starts? Why even bother paying?
Now the previews were kinda kewl. XXX: State of the Union looks action packed, and with Ice-Cube to replace Vin Diesel. Also, Elektra looks kewl. White Noise also looks like a winner in 2005. But, none of these (with the exception of XXX, which is quite a ways away) were anything new. They’ve all been advertised extensively on TV, so why waste our time by showing us these trailers? They could easily get rid of all the trailers, and just get straight to the movie, and probably squeeze in an extra showing during the day.
Anyway, back to the point. Blade was, surprisingly, quite good. Not as good as the Original, but a heck of alot better than the second. The CG was used to much better effect, and with alot greater success this time around. The only effect that got annoying was the introduction of little CG blood spray everytime someone got punched in the fact. It was out-of-place and just reminded me of the original Mortal Combat video game.
But the story is better, the acting is better (with the exception of the comic relief, Vampire Dogs, wtf?) and the fight scenes are alot better than the 2nd movie. I’ld give it a 4 of 5.
