The Dark Tower #7
Well, over the weekend I took a quick trip back to Mississippi. I took the flight time & layovers to finally finish the 7th (and final) book in Stephen King‘s Dark Tower series.
All I can say is wow. It was an incredible read, and the perfect ending to the epic. I especially loved right at the end, in the Coda, where he inserted an entire chapter chastizing the reader for not understanding that the point was the journey, not the Tower. Then he continues the story, anyway. The ending was both emotional, sad, relieving, and shocking.. All at the same time.
I’m not afraid to say that the Dark Tower series, especially the final book, has got to be some of the best writing Stephen King has ever produced, IMO. Everything is wrapped up, there are some happy and some sad endings for all the characters.
And now, just like Roland, I don’t know what to do. I’ve been anticipating the end of the story for so long, that now that I’m done… I don’t know what to do. Knowing I was nearing the end of this incredible epic was almost scary, just as Roland was afraid of ending his self-defining journey.
