Today, my boss sent me and several other people a word document (ugh) attached to an email message. Thankfully ytnef unrolled it without any problems. I opened it in OpenOffice and quickly perused it, and quickly sent him an email that he had a fairly important mistake in it that needed to be fixed.

A few minutes later, I get an email with a body like:

Subject: Recall:
Body:
Benny Hagag would like to recall the message, ““.

I was momentarily confused, until I realized what it was. It had one of outlook’s ubiquitous =winmail.dat= attachments, that evidently contained information to *erase the previous message* from the user’s inbox, with probably no user interaction.

Is it just me, or does it seem like a really, really bad idea to have email automatically delete other email? Seems like a hacker’s wet dream come true.
